Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP); Improving the tactical demand planning by implementing BI tooling and efficiency
About Thales
In the Netherlands, where more than 2200 employees are based, we are located in four cities: Huizen, Delft, Eindhoven and Hengelo (HQ). A wide range of business is operated from the location of Thales Huizen. Most activities fall under the Global Business Unit Secure Communication and Information Systems (SIX) in three different business lines: Radio Communication Products (RCP), Protection Systems (PRS) and Cyber Defense Solutions (CDS). Thales Huizen develops and produces it’s own product called SOTAS. SOTAS is a tactical radio and communication solution for military vehicles, which is sold worldwide through other directly to the customers or through other Thales entities. Furthermore, Thales Huizen offers cyber- and site security for different customers and maintains some trainers and simulators for the Dutch army.
About the team:
- You are part of the Project team S&OP under responsibility of the S&OP Leader. The Project Team is a interdisciplinary team with representatives of Sales, Engineering, Projects & Bids, Supply Chain and Controlling.
- The team reports to the Steering Group S&OP and the MT of Thales Huizen
- There is a hierarchical line to the sponsor of the program, the Director Supply Chain.
- Intense collaboration with both Thales Netherlands (HQ, Hengelo) and Thales Group (international).
About the assignment
S&OP is a business practice which ties mid-term business planning to strategic business goals. We want to bring S&OP to a more mature level within Thales Huizen:
Highest priority is to integrate our data in the most efficient way. To do so, we need clever data solutions and align stakeholders in the data gathering and data quality improvement process. We will focus on the Demand Plan data process to improve, including the alignment with the Support Plans. The assignment involves driving and supporting these improvement processes. You will need to dive into details with experts per discipline and need to keep the high-level purpose of the S&OP process in mind.
To continuously improve the S&OP practice and focus on obtaining higher levels of maturity, we aim for next year to:
- Improve data quality with Business Intelligence tools;
- Measure and improve Forecast accuracy;
- Integrate (Financial) KPI’s with S&OP planning;
- Integrate new businesses (CDG & RCP services) in S&OP.
- Continuously improve current planning practices;
Share our vision (and have direct impact) on possible improvements of current mid-term planning systems and tools.
